Is playing the B Guitar similar to playing the cello?

I've been playing the cello for about a year now, and I was considering buying a b guitar because my friend wants to start a band and they need a b player, and I don't want to invest in something I couldn't easily pick up. Basically what I'm asking is apart from strumming and Chords would there be a difference in s or notes?
